Traveling on, we headed to Bonneville Salt Flats to watch Brad Richards compete on his Bonnepan. The idea of the Salt Flats intrigued us both and we couldn't wait to see it for ourselves.
Our first view of the Salt Flats - unbelievable!
Our first evening we found that there was a car show at a local hotel. Naturally, we had to check it out.
Barb next to a 1956 Ford similar to the one owned by her family when she was young.
This one was straight from the Salt - hard to believe someone would leave all that salt on their car!
The next day, on a recommendation from the Visitors Center, we rode the '42 to the top of a nearby mountain to get a look at the "big picture" - amazing. Then it was on the Salt Flats for a close up view.

Our first ride on the Salt Flats - it was unbelievable! A friend of ours told us it looked like you were on the moon and we had to agree!
On to the Flats
Looking back at the mountains from the Flats
We rode the Flats checking out the sights and were amazed by the sheer size of it...miles of cars, trucks and bikes set up on the salt, all planning to test their stamina in this flat, hot, dry place. After seeing the sights, we managed to contact Brad and were able to hook up with him to watch the final checks on the "Bonnepan".

The '42 looked great on the Salt - we, however, were a little hot!
The next day were the Speed Trials day for the Bonnepan. It was time to test man and machine against the environment.
Brad suited up and ready to go

The second run
Brad's best speed was over 125 MPH which was great for a 1950 Panhead. He'll be back next year to try to go faster.
Tim says goodbye to the Bonneville Salt Flats and looks forward to a return trip.
